PILOT Internships

The internship is one of the most helpful and rewarding aspects of the PILOT experience. Near the end of the program, each participant is placed in a different working situation for a period of one month.

The primary goal of this internship is to observe different styles or approaches to leadership in a business or organizational setting, in order to help participants better formulate his or her philosophy of international leadership.

A major requirement of the PILOT internship is to witness other methods and styles of leadership in an international context. As a result, the internship can lead to these outcomes in leadership, business, or careers:

Gathering ideas for future direction – Some PILOT participants may approach the end of PILOT training without a clear understanding of the future. The internship provides experiences and connections that can serve as a launching point for the future.

Confirming future direction – Some PILOT participants want a closer look at the realities of their interests and an opportunity to rub shoulders with leaders who have similar vision. Many of these participants choose internships in a specific country or culture, with a particular kind of business or organization, based on their interests and goals.

Confirming a specific opportunity – Some PILOT participants already have concrete future plans. They choose internships that give them experience in that particular field, as well as the opportunity to work alongside others who have chosen similar vocations.

PILOT internships are unique and tailored to each individual. It is the responsibility of participant to plan his or her internship, under the attentive mentoring of the PILOT leader. Leaders may, however, with their overseas experience and contact pools, serve as best connections in the placement of their team members.
